The Olive Press is dedicated to publishing quality fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that captures the diversity of our world while upholding the values of the University of Mount Olive, most particularly honesty, courage, and respect.
Submissions are open from February 1 through April 15 AND September 1 through November 15. Writers may submit once per reading period. We do not accept work that has been previously published, in print or online.
Fiction: One story up to 1500 words. Double-spaced. No extra space between paragraphs. White space for section breaks only.
Nonfiction: One essay up to 1500 words. Double-spaced. No extra space between paragraphs. White space for section breaks only.
Poetry: Two to four poems as a single attachment, one poem per page, no more than six pages. Single-spaced. Left justified.
Flash: Two pieces up to 500 words. Double-spaced. No extra space between paragraphs. White space for section breaks only.

In the body of the cover letter include the following information: author’s name, phone number, email, and genre. Be sure to include a brief bio (up to 100 words), written in third-person. Please do not include your name on the attachment. Save file as LAST NAME and GENRE (Smith Poetry). Please send Word files: .doc or .docx.
A note about author rights:
When you publish with us, you grant us first serial rights. After publication, rights revert to the writer. Your work may remain on our website permanently. We ask for non-exclusive reprint rights. We may use short excerpts of your work in promotional materials. We ask that you credit The Olive Press when your work appears in later publications.
